剧情：在新開通的地下鐵中，青年陳保羅（張國榮 飾）對同車的莫妮卡（張曼玉 飾）一見鍾情，不幸卻被另一名乘客安妮（梅豔芳 飾）趁機捉弄。這幾位年輕人很快散落在茫茫人海中，職場新丁陳保羅開始爲工作奔忙，莫妮卡則爲了釐清和上司的一段舊情而心神不寧。某日，保羅與莫妮卡再次相遇，而富家小姐安妮亦再度出現，半捉弄半挑逗地纏上了保羅。莫妮卡找到新工作，遭遇了好色新領導的騷擾，保羅則在安妮的暗中幫襯下正式追求莫妮卡，與後者的好色上司連番交手。莫妮卡考慮接受保羅的愛意但終於退縮，聲稱將他們的愛情交付給一場地鐵中的緣分遊戲。在離亂的人流中，保羅和安妮一起，去找尋消失的莫妮卡……
