剧情：成濑巳喜男反映乡村家庭伦理之作。寡居乡间多年的八重（淡岛千景 饰），同家中的哥哥一起，为下一辈子女的工作和婚姻事务四下奔波。但年轻人却各自有着自己的想法，向往现代生活而不愿继续安守着祖上的田地，对父辈安排的婚姻也有保留，令长者心力交瘁。八重与一位已婚记者悉心地照顾着侄辈 ，妥善地处理好两代人的冲突纠纷，在这一过程中，两人情愫渐生，彼此隐约地珍存着这份超出友谊的恋情。 末了，八重在对方选择逃避后冷静地克制住自己的感情，而哥哥对后辈的选择虽不以为然，却是无可奈何，卖出了耕作多年的田地后，也只能徒然感慨时代的无情变化。

Plot：A war widow with a young boy manages a farm with her bossy mother-in-law. When a reporter comes to interview her, the two begin an affair. He turns out to be married and won't leave his wife. Her older brother tries to marry off his children and hang on to/ extend his farm through an advantageous marriage in the face of threatened land confiscation and the desire of his children to get comfortable urban jobs instead of the backbreaking work in the paddy fields under parental control.
