剧情：萨姆三岁被母亲遗弃，在马戏团长大，取名雄狮萨姆。16岁时的一次演出意外，使他不能再登台了。多年后，萨姆已经经历了两次婚姻，有了一双儿女，成了一个大公司的老板。但他却感到这不是他的生活。他想象狮子那样自由，于是制造了自己驾船失事的假象，独自跑到非洲。不料，在这里他被一个法国青年认出，并在与这个年轻人的交往中认识到自己还没有尽完对孩子的义务。于是，他带这个青年回到法国，指导他帮自己的儿子管理公司，并撮合他与自己的女儿结婚。一家人因此团聚，而完成一切之后，萨姆快乐地回到了非洲。
