剧情：山東小子馬永貞（陳觀泰）的拳腳功夫雖十分了得，但因屬無名小輩，初到十里洋場的舊上海的他也只能憑藉過人力氣做苦力。因爲秉性善良，路遇不平事時馬永貞會拔刀相助，令某歌女（井莉）對他暗生好感，也因此得以成爲上海灘風流倜儻、武藝高強的黑道“不小人物”譚四（姜大衛）的好兄弟。 因爲對譚四成就的羨慕，馬永貞決意憑自己的拳腳打出一片天下來，並漸漸如願以償。可惜江湖險惡，他沒想到地盤逐漸擴大的自己和譚四成了楊老闆的眼中釘。不久，他目睹譚四爲楊老闆所殺，決心爲譚四報仇，然而他的仗義和功夫並不能玩轉江湖的遊戲規則。
