Plot：The documentary on the recent history of Japanese cinema, featuring interviews with filmmakers, historians and film industry representatives. It is directed by Hubert Niogret and co-produced by Les Films du Tamarin and Filmoblic, two companies specializing in the production of documentaries and short films since the 1970s. New Territories presents the renewal of images and the new territories of today: careers of Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, Takashi Miike, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, etc. from the late 90s to the present day. In addition to filmed interviews, the images - film extracts, film stills, set photos, portraits of directors and artists, film posters, Japanese music, sound interviews, making-of - make up the material for these documentaries, which retrace a part of the history of Japanese cinema, putting it into perspective with world and local history, the economy, politics, within a specific cultural and aesthetic framework, at times open or closed to the West.
